Garden Table

Broad Ripple

Project Overview

The Garden Table’s first location in Indy’s arts district of Broad Ripple had previously been a retail space since it’s construction in the late 90’s. Because of this, a full kitchen buildout was required, including a change in zoning and a plethora of permits, which Boaz Construction handled in conjunction with the architect.

Boaz Construction worked closely with ownership, architects, city and state governing boards, subcontractors, kitchen designers and equipment installers to transform the space into a functional commercial restaurant with the charm that Broad Ripple patrons have become accustomed to.

Project Highlights

Commercial Kitchen Build

As the space was previously built for retail use, a complete kitchen design and buildout was performed. The Boaz team worked closely with the architect and kitchen equipment company to maximize back of house space within a small footprint. Project installations included grit epoxy flooring, FRP wall panels, walk-in refrigerator, and hood and clamped grease exhaust. Heavy gauge framing, stainless steel wall corners, and man-made synthetic baseboards were used to accommodate the needs of a high traffic commercial environment.

Bulletproof Means & Methods

Boaz Construction takes pride in building what they call “bulletproof” kitchens. After years of repairs in commercial kitchens, the lessons learned have been applied to a process that inhibits those issues in Boaz-constructed kitchens going forward. Products are used that don’t absorb water, are resistant to mold, ¬†and are sturdy enough to hold up to excessive wear and tear common in commercial environments. Rather than using drywall, which is easily damageable and deterieriorates over time with moisture buildup, plywood and cement board are encapsulated in a waterproof coating and hung under the FRP paneling, creating a double barrier from the elements.

Collaboration with Owner

The Boaz team worked hand-in-hand with the owners throughout the project to incorporate design elements that would achieve the aesthetic they had in mind. This included custom banquette seating, cabinetry and counter tops designed and built by Boaz Millworks, installation of a vintage cast-iron mop sink in the bathroom, and tiling the front counter and bathroom walls.
